Essential Components

Duration of Program: Our program is committed to a minimum of six years, providing students with the time and resources necessary to develop high proficiency in both English and Spanish.

Admission Flexibility: English speakers may enter at TK/Kindergarten or first grade, while Spanish speakers may enter at kindergarten, first, or second grade. If students are not already biliterate, it is not recommended that they enter a DLI program after second grade. Students in second grade and above are assessed on their language and literacy proficiency in both languages before enrollment.

Balanced Classrooms: Each classroom maintains a balanced ratio of 50 percent Spanish speakers and 50 percent English speakers. This approach fosters an environment of linguistic equity, facilitates cross-learning for both language groups, encourages social interaction among Spanish- and English-speakers, and promotes cultural understanding among all students.

Language Separation: A fundamental aspect of our program is separating Spanish and English instruction. This approach allows for the maximized concentration of both languages, ensuring students develop strong linguistic skills in each.

Multiple Strategies and Techniques: We employ various strategies and techniques to make language and content understandable for all students. Our dedicated teachers utilize innovative methods to scaffold learning, support language acquisition, and promote academic success in both languages.
