The Hawks pulled off the program-wide sweep at this year’s Crosstown Showdown!  The Hawks took control of things early last night as CV stormed out to an early 14-0 lead on touchdowns by Emmanuel Luna (4 yd run) and Sebastian Maldonado (74 yard run).  Ceres would answer with a long touchdown run of their own to pull the score to 14-7 at the end of the 1st quarter.  The 2nd quarter started well for the Hawks as this time the passing game took over.  Junior Gomez hooked up with Matthew Ontiveroz on a 41 yd TD strike.  The Hawks would follow this up with another touchdown run by Emmanuel Luna, this one for 39 yards.  CV took the commanding 28-7 lead into half.  The Bulldogs came ready for the 2nd half and immediately scored on a long touchdown run and 2 pt. conversion to cut the CV lead to 28-15.  The Hawks would answer with a 25 yd field goal by Josiah Armenta to push the CV lead to 31-15 as the 3rd quarter concluded.  In the 4th quarter, an interception by Terrance Wethington was followed by an Erick Mendoza 17 yard touchdown run.  This put the game away the Hawks defeated the Bulldogs by the final score of 38-21.  CV will now await the results of tonight’s games to see if they will earn a possible playoff bowl game.  The Hawks currently sit in the #17 spot in the rankings and the top 16 qualify.  We will find out over the weekend if the CV season will continue.

As mentioned this morning, the Ceres and CV Principals made a friendly crosstown bet and the Hawks prevailed!  Enjoy the attached picture of our friends across town as they were good sports and held up their end of the bet by repping our CV gear!

The CV Water Polo season came to a conclusion this past Monday and the Hawks made some positive strides this year.  On the girls side, CV fell to Ceres High, but offensive standout Lily Madrigal finished the season with an astounding 110 goals which is easily tops in the WAC and good enough for 10th in California and 25th in the Nation.  The Boys team finished off the season in style with a dominant 8-3 win over the Ceres Bulldogs.  Congrats to both teams on their overall improvement this season.
